This project grew out of a GB Pixel Art Jam 2025 entry. subpixel went the extra step and animated his artwork, so Lean Art got the inspiration to turn it into an actual Game Boy ROM.
Excerpt from the original submission:
I love making 1-bit art, I love the Game Boy, and the theme is fun. To depict "balance", I've chosen a scene from an imaginary action platformer from my fictional youth: Action Guy and the Lost Egyptian Tomb. We've made our way to the end of the level, and the boss appears! Anubis himself is here to judge us, how will we survive?! Maybe that cat knows a secret. The ancient Egyptians certainly seemed to believe cats were wise!
